Member of the SCILLS Scientific Advisory Group Honoured. December 31st 2009
SCILLS sends its heartiest congratulations to Professor Karen Vousden, the Director of the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research, Glasgow, and a member of the Scientific Advisory Group of SCILLS, who was today made a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) in the Queen's New Year's Honours. Karen, who is most famous for her discovery of MDM2, the E3 ubiquitin ligase that destroys the tumour suppressor p53, became Director of the Beatson Cancer Institute in 2002. Prior to that Karen was the Head of Molecular Carcinogenesis and Chief of the Regulation of Cell Growth Laboratory at the National Cancer Institute, Frederick, USA from 1995-2002.
