SCILLS recruits new Programme Leader
Arno Alpi, currently a postdoctoral fellow at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK has accepted an offer to become a Programme Leader in SCILLS and will move to Dundee to take up this position in September 2009. Arno's research will focus on the role of protein ubiquitination in regulating the cellular response to DNA damage and its importance in protection against cell transformation and cancer.
Arno was born and brought up in Austria and obtained his undergraduate degree at the University of Vienna. He carried out his PhD at the Max-Planck Institute for Biochemistry, Martinsried, Germany with Anton Gartner, before moving to Cambridge in May 2004.
When not in the lab, Arno is a keen mountaineer and he recently made it to the top of a 7,500 metre peak in China. Although not as high as this, the Scottish Highlands just north of Dundee, have many challenging climbs and will provide Arno with ample opportunity to indulge his non-scientific passion.
