POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT
GRADE 7 (£28,983 - £35,646)
Applications are invited for the above position to work with Dr Thimo Kurz in the newly formed Protein Ubiquitylation Unit of the SCottish Institute for ceLL Signalling (SCILLS). We are seeking highly motivated individuals to study the regulation of Cullin-Ring E3 ubiquitin ligases by the assembly inhibitor Cand1. This work will initially be carried out in the budding yeast S. cerevisiae, with the goal to subsequently verify the findings in mammalian cells. We are looking for applicants with a strong background in biochemistry and molecular biology and preferably with budding yeast and/or mammalian tissue culture experience. The successful candidate will have an outstanding academic track record and have published first authored papers in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.
The appointment will be made on the University Grade 7 scale plus superannuation, with initial placement depending on achievements and experience. This contract is for a fixed term period of 3 years. For further information about the work of the lab and the Unit, consult .

PROGRAMME LEADER

We invite applications for the above position from scientists with an exciting research programme aimed at understanding the role of protein ubiquitylation in cell regulation and human disease. We are looking for someone wishing to set up their own laboratory for the first time, with a project that will bring a new area of research to the Unit or complement or synergise with its on-going research.
The successful applicant may take up the position at any time from September 2010 onwards, and the appointment will be made at one of the first three points of the University Academic Grade 9 Salary Scale (£46,510-£49,342). You will also receive funding to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Assistant and a PhD student, a generous consumables budget, use of the Unit’s DNA cloning, Protein and Antibody Production teams and full access to our outstanding equipment and research facilities.
