Tissue Culture Technician

Applications are invited for a full-time Technician within our Tissue Culture facilities. The post is available immediately and is funded for up to 3 years.
Duties will include growing and routine testing of cells, ordering of consumables, helping to maintain cleanliness and generally ensuring the smooth running of the facilities. Candidates should be qualified to ONC level or equivalent. Knowledge of tissue culture procedures and aseptic techniques would be an advantage.

Technician

An opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a full-time Laboratory Technician for a period three years. The successful candidate will assist the Laboratory Manager in provision of daily support service requirements for research staff working in a life science environment. Duties will include procurement of consumables, assisting in coordinating the maintenance and repair of equipment, expenditure monitoring, adherence to health and safety policy and procedures, and general housekeeping.
Familiarity with computing, use of databases and compliance with health and safety regulations for safe working practises would be an advantage.
Applicants must hold a minimum of an HND or equivalent in a relevant subject.

Postdoctoral Research Assistant

Characterization E3 ubiquitin ligases
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the laboratory of Dr Thimo Kurz to study an E3 Ubiquitin Ligase with therapeutic implications in human disease. The successful candidate will characterize the composition of the involved E3 ligase, develop in vitro assays for E3 activity and identify novel ligase regulators. We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic individual with a strong background in biochemistry and molecular biology. As a translational project, the research will be performed in close collaboration with a major pharmaceutical company.
The position is for 3 years.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work in an exciting and collaborative research environment, equipped to the highest international standards.
Candidate requirements:
- PhD with outstanding academic track record and at least one first authored publication in an internationally recognized peer-reviewed journal
- Strong background in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
- Experience with Cell Biology and Mammalian Tissue Culture would be beneficial
- Prior exposure to the ubiquitin system and experience with in vitro reconstitutions of E3 ubiquitin ligase activity would be a distinct advantage
- Capable of working in a team, but able to plan and work independently
- Good communication skills and knowledge of the English language
Unit Information:
The Protein Ubiquitylation Unit is the first research division of the SCottish Institute for ceLL Signalling (SCILLS). Launched in October 2008, its aim is to study the role of protein ubiquitylation and related modifications in cell regulation and human disease. The Institute is situated next to the world-renowned Medical Research Council Protein Phosphorylation Unit, in a beautiful location overlooking the estuary of the River Tay.
